Occupational Therapy
Developing Hands offers Occupational Therapy service in three modes, in-home/school/daycare, in-clinic and remote. Occupational Therapists work with the families to determine the best setting conducive to meeting their child’s goals. Our Occupational Therapists have the skill sets necessary to work within the numerous settings and engage the child in a fun and effective way. Various settings can work for several goals. For example, a child working on their fine motor or writing skills can work with an Occupational Therapist in either of the three modes offered by Developing Hands as the Occupational Therapist can clearly observe hand, body, posture and behaviour through all modes and provide effective feedback. Learn more about the various modes of service delivery and which one is right for you.
Speech Therapy
It is important for Speech Therapists to have a clear visual of the child’s face and mouth movements when engaging in Speech Therapy. This can successfully be done in the three modes of service delivery offered by Developing Hands, in-home/school/daycare, in-clinic and remote. The Speech Therapists can share strategies and techniques in either mode of service delivery to engage and encourage the child to mimic their sounds or mirror their facial movements to meet their goals. Parents of young children and toddlers may need to be present during sessions, whether in person or remote, to enhance the effectiveness of therapy delivery and learn the skill sets and strategies needed to work on with their child outside of therapy sessions. Physiotherapy
At Developing Hands, we offer Physiotherapy in a variety of modes. In-person (in-home/school/daycare or in-clinic), hands-on sessions may be needed to address the child’s physical functioning and meet their goals. Physiotherapy sessions have also been conducted remotely and may require the involvement of the parents depending on the goals being worked on. For example, if a child is diagnosed with torticollis, the Physiotherapist can work with the child in-person (in-home/school/daycare or in-clinic) to work on stretching and positioning techniques. These strategies can also be shared remotely by the Physiotherapist who may use a doll to exhibit the techniques to the family, but would require more involvement of the family to complete the hands-on stretches with the child that are shared by the Physiotherapist. Learn more about the three modes of service delivery and benefits of each.
Social Work/Counselling
Our Social Worker can visit with children and family in-person in our clinic or remotely. These two modes of service delivery allow for flexibility for the family and are effective for counselling sessions as they are conducive for talk therapy and guidance. These two modes of service delivery are effective for the Social Worker to be able to see the child and family face to face either in-person or remotely, and can listen and express validation through tone, facial and body expressions, and provide support and strategies to address concerns. Psychology
Our Psychologist completes comprehensive Psycho-educational Assessments and Gifted Assessments in our clinic in Mississauga. This professional, controlled and welcoming setting is ideal for the intensive hours of testing and interviews required to gather the information needed for analysis. This in-person setting is also optimal for observing behaviours during testing. Learn more about the benefits of in-clinic services.
Osteopathy
At Developing Hands, our Osteopathy services are offered in-clinic as this is the most ideal setting for hands-on stretching, manipulation, and muscle releasing techniques required to be done by the Osteopathic Manual Practitioner. The clinic is equipped with a height adjustable therapy bed that allows for optimal positioning for effective therapy. Learn more about our in-clinic setting.
